Initial Problem - Customer drove in with complaints that the cranking speed was noticeably slower.
Diagnosis & Recommendation - We started the vehicle in the shop and noticed the same problem. Testing the battery revealed that the Cold Cranking Amps were weak and recommended replacing the battery. This is a very specific battery that must be acquired from BMW only and requires the battery module to be made aware that there is a new battery. This adjusts the charging cycle accordingly. Not doing this WILL cause premature wear in the new battery and an unhappy customer.
Outcome - After replacing the we performed the reprogramming as necessary and the slow cranking issue was no longer present.
