Initial Problem - Customer was told by another shop that their engine needed to be replaced. Engine runs rough, CEL Light is on, and loud tapping/knocking coming from engine.

Diagnosis & Recommendation - The vehicle would start and the tapping or knocking noise would vary in volume. This lead us to believe the damage is related to the timing assembly and the engine may actually be in good shape otherwise. After removing the timing cover we confirmed that the engine timing chain did indeed skip over. An issue that is usually related to infrequent oil changes. We initially adjusted the existing chain assembly back to OEM positioning. The vehicle was able to start and run without any misfire or noise. There was a parts kit that included everything we would need to replace all the important elements of the timing system. We advised the customer to repalce all the elements of the timing system along with the water pump, serpentine belt, thermostat and some gaskets.

Outcome - After replacing the aforementioned parts the vehicle was now back to a driveable condition.
