Initial Problem - Car would not start and was towed into our auto repair facility. Based on the customer description of how the vehicle abruplty stopped, we were hesitant to do any type of normal diagnosing that could cause more damage.

Diagnosis & Recommendation - Based on the mileage of the vehicle and the customer description of how the vehicle stopped, we had suspected that the timing belt was broken. Pulling the timing cover back we were able to verify this. We then explained to the customer that this was an interference motor and there was a strong possibility that the cylinder head valves were damaged when the timing belt broke. We indicated that the only way to know the exact outcome was to mount a timing belt and while everything was apart, to attempt to start the car and perform a compression test if we got it started.

Outcome - As we had suspected, the valves on the cylinder head were damaged when the timing belt was broken. We then spoke with the customer and concluded that they wanted to fix the vehicle. This means that the cylinder head had to be dismantled and sent to a machine shop for proper evaluation. Along with that comes many extra parts that need to be ordered. This is a massive undertaking and we recommend that you speak with and only deal with professional auto mechanics when having any service done... expecially one that involves this scope of work.
