2003 Honda Accord - K24A Motor - Timing Component Repair

About the car:

  • Year - 2003
  • Make - Honda
  • Model - Accord
  • SubModel - Ex
  • Engine - 2.4 Liter 4 Cylinder

Initial Problem - Customer had car towed in because it was died while driving.  After diagnosing the vehicle we found the timing components had wore significantly.  Causing the vehicles timing chain to jump after a certain time frame of driving under normal circumstances.

Recommendation - To replace the upper camshaft gears, crankshaft gear, timing chain, timing chain tensioner, and any related seals.

What we learned from this - This is a common problem with drivers who are lax on their oil changes.  Going the extra 1,000 to 2,000 miles per oil change will eventually lead to significan't wear causing thousands of dollars of repairs that could have been avoided if oil changes were done on time, every time.

Outcome - Oil had to be changed at 1,000 after this repair due to the wearing of the new metal components.  Car has not returned since this repair.
