Diagnosis & Recommendation - We confirmed that the P0420 and P0430 on the 2002 Nissan Altima was in fact defective catalytic converters. There are specific diagnostic procedures that allow us to quicky verify the diagnosis made by a previous facility. We also recommended that the customer replace all four oxygen sensors when the customer replaces the catalytic converters. Due to the cost the customer opted to only replace 2 sensors at this time and indicated they would return to replace the other two oxygen sensor in the future.

Outcome - The amount of time involved in this job is underestimated by labor guides. In the NorthEast we experience rust that significantly adds to the time of each job. However, despite the extra time and care needed, everything worked out well. We were able to verify the condition of the catalytic converters after we removed them. We then showed them to the customer and explained how this scenario has been slowly stealing gas mileage from their vehicle. The vehicle was test driven and the catalytic converter monitors passed with no issues.
