About the car:
- Year - 1994
- Make - Nissan
- Model - 300ZX
- SubModel - Twin Turbo
- Engine - 3.0 Liter Turbocharged 6 Cylinder
Initial Problem - Car would run rough. Check engine light was on with random fuel injector codes.
Diagnosis & Recommendation - In the process of taking our the fuel injectors to test them, we found MANY electrical connections were corroded. The more items we unplugged the more corrosion we found. Further research revealed that this was a common problem with this car, particularly in this region of the country. The only solution was to replace the engine harness with a new one.
What we learned from this - A job of this size requires ample shop space to put items removed from the car. Most of the top half of the engine had to be disassembled along with the timing assembly. This was not limited to the engine compartment as the dashboard also had to be removed in order to get the wiring that connected to the ECM out and back in with the new harness. We also learned that this item is was no longer made by Nissan at that time and procuring one was not as easy as one would think. Luckily we had a very understanding customer who was very patient.
Outcome - After 4 tedious days of dismantling, checking, reading, double checking and reassembling... We had a great running Nissan 300ZX again with no Check Engine Light and no driveability issues.
