About the car:
- Year - 2006
- Make - Scion
- Model - Tc
- Engine - 2.4 Liter 4 Cylinder
Initial Problem - Customer had complaints of low brake pedal.
Diagnosis & Recommendation - Upon initial inspection we found that the brake rotors were rusting and pitted. We suspected the calipers to be malfunctioning. Upon removing the rear calipers we found that the caliper guides were seized. It required the bracket to be removed and heated on the bench with a torch. That was the only way to separate the calipers from the guide pins. Once we were able to remove all of them, we sourced new caliper bushings and caliper bolts/guides, replacing the hardware and lubricating everything with specialized brake grease.
Outcome - Based on the mileage of the vehicle, we recommended the customer use the least expensive option for brake pads and brake rotors. We also bled the brake lines thoroughly, effectively flushing all the old fluid out and filling the lines with new fluid. Once we were able to put everything back together, the calipers now moved freely on the guide pins while the brakes were applied. The brake pedal no longer felt squishy or low and the vehicle braking was working in a safe and effecient manner.
