About the car:

- Engine - 5.4 Liter 8 Cylinder
Initial Problem - Customer had vehicle towed in from another facility. Makes loud noise when running, oil is leaking.
Diagnosis & Recommendation - We found the the timing cover was broken on the driver side of the cover. Upon removing the cover we found that the timing chain guides had broken and were likely the culprit in the recent damage. Initially we recommended that the customer replace the timing chain assembly along with the timing cover, clean the oil pickup area and replace the valve cover.
Outcome - We initially performed the timing chain service. A service we are very comfortable with as we have done it several times before. One of those examples can be found here. These were very similar engine assemblies. However, we learned that there can be hidden issues with the engine that need to be considered. In this instance, after putting everything together and test driving the vehicle, we had the engine seize.
After speaking to representatives from Ford Parts, we learned that the oil channels from the block were clogged and it starved the engine with oil. Effectively seizing the driver side camshaft while driving. Tom's Ford in Keyport NJ worked with us to reach an solution where we replaced the engine at a reasonable cost considering the parts we had just purchased. We eneded up installing a new engine from Ford, providing the customer with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.
